I baked this Vegan Danish Pastries for my niece’s birthday party last weekend. The filling stayed creamy in the pastry, and my sister loved them.
Homemade Vegan Danish Pastries

This vegan Danish pastry recipe features a flaky dough made with plant-based butter, filled with a luscious sweet cream mixture. Easy to make, these pastries are perfect for breakfast or as a dessert, taking about 1 hour and 15 minutes from start to finish, yielding 12 pastries.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup plant-based butter, chilled and cubed
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup almond milk or any plant-based milk
- 2 teaspoons instant yeast
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup vegan cream cheese
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon almond extract
- Vegan egg wash (1 tablespoon plant-based milk mixed with 1 tablespoon cornstarch)
- Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)
Instructions
- Make the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, granulated sugar, and salt. Add the chilled plant-based butter and use a pastry cutter or fork to incorporate until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, mix almond milk, instant yeast, and vanilla extract. Pour this mixture into the flour mixture and stir until a dough forms. Knead lightly until smooth.
- Chill the Dough: Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
- Prepare the Filling: In a bowl, combine vegan cream cheese, powdered sugar, lemon juice, and almond extract. Mix until smooth and set aside.
- Roll and Shape: On a floured surface, roll out the dough into a large rectangle about 1/4 inch thick. Cut into 12 squares and place a tablespoon of filling in the center of each square.
- Fold and Seal: Fold the corners of each square to meet in the center, pinching to seal. Place pastries on a lined baking sheet.
- Brush and Bake: Brush the tops with vegan egg wash. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Cool and Serve: Let the pastries cool for a few minutes before dusting with powdered sugar. Serve warm or at room temperature.
