I baked this Vegan Boston Cream Donuts for my neighbor’s book club last week. The cream stayed soft under the chocolate, and my coworker loved them.

These vegan Boston cream donuts are filled with a luscious vanilla cream and topped with a shiny chocolate glaze. The combination of flavors and textures makes them a standout dessert, perfect for any vegan diet. This recipe yields about 12 donuts and takes approximately 1 hour to prepare and bake.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup non-dairy milk (such as almond or soy)
- 1/4 cup melted coconut oil
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup vegan butter (for filling)
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for filling)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for filling)
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (for chocolate topping)
- 1 cup powdered sugar (for chocolate topping)
- 2 tablespoons non-dairy milk (for chocolate topping)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a donut pan.
- Make Donut Batter: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. In another bowl, mix non-dairy milk, melted coconut oil, and vanilla extract. Combine the wet and dry ingredients until just mixed.
- Fill Donut Pan: Spoon the batter into the greased donut pan, filling each cavity about 3/4 full. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Prepare Filling: While the donuts are baking, whip together the vegan butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until creamy. Set aside.
- Cool Donuts: After baking, allow the donuts to cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Fill Donuts: Once cooled, use a piping bag or a small knife to fill each donut with the vanilla cream mixture.
- Make Chocolate Topping: In a medium bowl, whisk together cocoa powder, powdered sugar, and non-dairy milk until smooth.
- Glaze Donuts: Dip the tops of each filled donut into the chocolate topping to coat or drizzle over them for a decorative finish.
- Serve: Allow the chocolate to set slightly before serving. Enjoy these vegan Boston cream donuts fresh or store them in an airtight container.
